by Commentator Staff

The Chabad Club with the help of a grant from YCSC will be holding its first scholar-in-residence program at the end of the month. Guest lecture Rabbi Heschel Greenberg will be the featured speaker for the inaugural event.

Rabbi Greenberg who hails from upstate New York is director of the Discovery Center of Buffalo and is an adjunct professor of Judaic Studies in SUNY Buffalo. He is also a well noted lecturer and a prolific author. He co-edited the translation of "On the Essence of Chassidus", an esoteric work explaining the basic concept of Chassidus. He has also written P'air Ha Melech, a commentary of the laws of tefillin according the Rambam. He has recorded over 600 audio tapes and 150 video tapes on various topics of Judaism. His latest video, The Bible Code: Fact or Fiction? has been gathering fans all across the globe.

The topic for the lecture is entitled Chassidism in the Twenty-First Century. Rabbi Greenberg is going to discuss the role chassidus plays in the life of Jews and how it elevates man in his religious fervor. Rabbi Greenberg will also explain the fundamental differences that make Lubavitchers a unique group of Jews in contemporary Jewish society.

The Chabad Club wishes to extend an open invitation the entire student body to attend the lecture and ask Rabbi Greenberg any questions regarding Lubavitch. The lecture is set to take place on Monday evening March 30th at 8:00 PM in the Rubin Shul.
