Cardozo Holds Recruitment Function For YU Undergraduates

by Aaron Schlanger

On Friday, March 13, The Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law of Yeshiva University held an open house for students of Yeshiva College, Sy Syms School for Business, and Stern College for Women. Students from each of the schools attended. Pre-Law Advisor, Dean Michael Hecht of Yeshiva College was also present. The purpose of the event was to introduce the school and faculty to students who have been accepted for the upcoming academic year, and to recruit prospective students.

The event began with Amy Gewirtz, an admissions counselor at Cardozo, highlighting certain aspects of the school. She discussed specific areas of the law, such as intellectual property, in which Cardozo is ranked among the top 10 law schools in the United States. This was followed by a brief tour of the school building including the library.

After the tour, the students sat in on Professor Barry Scheck’s Criminal Procedure class. Although said by many to be stimulating, the students said that they would have benefited more had they been given some background information about what would be discussed in the class.

The class was followed by a lunch. Present at the lunch were Robert Schwartz, the Director of Admissions at Cardozo, Michael Hertz, the Associate Dean of Academic Affairs, Nancy Kramer, the Director of Placement, and Dean Hecht. Each spoke about their respective areas and entertained questions that students had about Cardozo. Barry Scheck answered general questions that the students had about the legal profession.
