Lamm: A Retrospective From the founding of Yeshiva College in 1928 until yesterday, only three individuals bore the mantle of Yeshiva’s presidency. Each, in his own distinctive fashion, strove to advance an ideal extant since the formation of the College, namely, “the pursuit, interpretation, and advancement of universal knowledge in harmony with the great affirmations of Judaism We first express relief that the protracted and embarrassing search process has come to a conclusion. After a year and a half of selecting, scrutinizing and scaring away candidates, the Yeshiva board has finally found its man. No longer must we lament our plight as “the congregation of God that are like sheep that have no shepherd” (Numbers 27:17).
