Give Me Credit Where Credit is Due

To the Editor:

I attended the YU bowling tournament and was as happy as anyone else to see the large turnout. The way I looked at it was "Hey, more people for me to beat," but in the end the program's proud organizers got the best of my teammates and me. The feature article at the top of The Commentator's sports page spoke well of the deserving hosts and even quoted the opinions of two of the tournament's losers, who correctly noted that the event was a success and the balls at the alley were particularly hard to bowl with. Bravo. Did anybody happen to catch just who won this large tournament? Which of the eight smiling faces in the picture, only four of whom earned their trophies, came in first place? Well, I know the secret and because I believe I should take credit for what I've done, no more and no less, I'll share those names with you.

Yaakov Falk was the tournament's highest scorer and obviously led our team as well. Ariel Charytan inspired the team with his great play and his never ending desire to excel in every endeavor. I, Shmuel Sorkin looked good while coining the team's official game plan: "When everyone else starts slipping we'll just keep getting better," an important idea in this society of half-assed attempts. Newcomer Rafi Tare was the team's ringer.

So now that you know the names of those shiny faced champions, I'll correct one more mistake: readers who may think me haughty should know that I win for winning's sake and because the trophy on my mantle looks really cool; the recognition that I seek is purely for my teammates and our families.
