Incumbent Republican, Alfonse D'Amato will face the Democratic challenger, Chuck Schumer, in what has become a full blown battle for a seat in the United States Senate. D'Amato, who has held his seat in the Senate for the past twelve years, has long been known to the Jewish community as a friend and ally.
