YU Aligned Rabbis at Center of Wye Accords Fracas

Over the past few weeks, the pages of the New York Post and The Jewish Week have played host to a heated debate over the validity of the recently signed Wye Peace Accords. The agreements provided for further Israeli territorial concession in return for Palestinian security guarantees. The debate itself centers on a Post advertisement signed by several YU Roshei Yeshiva which, effectively, stated that the Wye agreement is halakhically invalid. Though the group did not represent the whole of YU or its Roshei Yeshiva, its advertisement has fueled debate both on and off campus.

Stone Foundation Draws the Line on Divisiveness

The Sapirstein-Stone-Weiss Foundation, a Cleveland-based family foundation comprised of the owners of the American Greetings Corporation, recently released a statement declaring that it will be directing its family's considerable resources away from institutions that "sow divisiveness among Jews," and toward those more open to religious pluralism. Accordingly, Yeshiva University has been placed on the top of the Foundation's list of institutions to support.
