Turn Off Tolany

To the Editor:

I'm no expert on Moshiach, but I couldn't help but laugh upon reading Stephen Tolany's latest article on the topic. It seems his criticisms of Lubavitch have now crossed the line where genuine halachic dispute ends, and baseless, hateful slander begins. Its safe to say that anyone so comfortable discounting Torah Jews as well as entire Chassidic movements must seriously reconsider his priorities. In my opinion, what underlies such an unethical pursuit is the admission of defeat. To quote from R' Ahron Soloveitchik's 'retraction' which Tolany invokes, "I have great respect for the Lubavitcher Rebbe's living legacy and continue to believe that Jewish unity and communal comity is poorly served by our attacking each other in public." I wonder if Tolany ever looks at himself in the mirror when reading those words.
