Student Services Expels Ten Students

On Thursday March 7th, ten students were expelled from Yeshiva University for their alleged involvement in a police-investigated incident occurring in an off-campus apartment one week earlier. While investigation into the nature of the incident and degree of involvement by the individual students remains inconclusive, a growing institutional firestorm has arisen over perceived violations of student rights and reluctance to establish a formal disciplinary protocol....
Zakheim Withdraws Presidential Candidacy

Commentator sources confirmed on Tuesday that Undersecretary of Defense Dr. Dov Zakheim withdrew his name from consideration as the successor to Yeshiva President Rabbi Dr. Norman Lamm, after a week of heated debate in the Yeshiva community surrounding his candidacy. No official reason for his withdrawal had been cited at press time, though a source on Yeshiva’s Board of Trustees revealed that Zakheim could attribute his decision to his lack of stature as a Jewish scholar.... |

RIETS Celebrates 147 Ordinations, Katsav Receives Honorary Doctorate

Throngs of friends, family members, and observers crowded Lamport Auditorium on Sunday, March 10th, to witness the quadrennial Chag HaSemikha, which conferred rabbinical ordination on 147 people, ranging in age from 24-50, who hailed from thirteen states and five countries. This year’s Chag, which featured the first-ever simulcast of the event to Yeshiva’s Gruss Center in Jerusalem –where ten of the musmakhim viewed the gala – also conferred an honorary doctorate upon Israel’s President Moshe Katsav....
