Chemistry in Brief

by Alan Goldsmith

Culminating a long, drawn-out search process, Yeshiva College has hired two new chemistry professors in both the Organic and Inorganic fields .  Dr. Bruce Hrnjez was selected to fill a tenure-track line in Organic Chemistry, while Dr. Lance Silverman, who will be teaching Inorganic Chemistry, comes to Yeshiva in the role of Visiting Professor.

Although the search process lasted through the sprind semester and into the summer Dr. Joyce Jesionowski, Associate Dean of Yeshiva College, explained that procuring these types of professors requires an extensive period of time.

The unusually high number of vacancies at universities nationwide made the search especially difficult. “Many highly-prized candidates were attracted to other universities,” said Jesionowski. “Certain specialties, such as computer science and organic chemistry, are incredibly competitive, and so the best thing to do is to stay in the academic market. Indeed, the chemistry department should be commended for holding out for excellent professors” she enthused.
