Guarde! Fencing 2002-03 Preview Fall. The time of year when a young man’s thoughts turn to fencing. Already, the November 10 Johns Hopkins tournament casts its shadow over the sports landscape as fencing fans across campus make sure they are free to travel with the team that day as it begins another season in long tradition of athletic excellence. Some prominent issues of importance cry out for thorough examination and popular debate. However, this section will deal with topics looming large over the world of sports. In the spirit of Lincoln and Douglas we would have liked to make a whistle-stop tour across this great nation, debating the sports questions of our day.
It has been said that the only certainties in life are death and taxes. However, with Dick Clark and certain CEOs currently questioning the inevitability of even these facts, we are left with only near-certainties. One near-certainty, ranking on the probability scale above taxes but below death, is the likelihood that the Yeshiva College soccer team will improve on last year’s performance.
