Online Undergrad Registration Set
for Fall ‘03 The wait is finally over. Online registration is set to debut at Yeshiva by the fall ’03 semester. At this point, the new registration system has been tested at Yeshiva’s Benjamin Cardozo School of Law, where approximately forty new students registering for the spring 2003 semester could to do so without waiting online and proceeding through the exhaustive Yeshiva registration process. Although new students entering Cardozo in the spring semester have a prescribed curriculum, the system tested the exchange of data between the web-front and BANNER, Yeshiva's student information system. Aside from several mishaps, the trial was successful. The program’s first trial run in the undergraduate schools will occur this May, when juniors registering for the fall 2003 semester will have the opportunity to register online. The system in its early stages will not allow for additions or drops of classes to be processed; those will have to be dealt with at the registrar's office. “It’s a complicated process,” said John Fisher, Director of Enrollment Management. His hope is that May's registration will expose most of the problems still remaining with the program. Currently, registration accessible to all students is planned for those registering during December and onwards for the spring 2004 semester. During the registration process, students will be able to view course descriptions and prerequisites for courses. Students who are unable to meet requirements will not be allowed to register for those courses. The module hosting online registration will have other useful features. Students will be able to look up their transcripts and print out a student copy. They will also be able to check up on the status of their financial aid applications and receive instructions concerning what steps to take next. Students will also be able to update their personal information, such as their home address, through the web site. Later, a “degree module” will be launched, which aims to take over some of the duties of advisors, recommending which courses to take that semester by taking into consideration the student's major. ¨
